The McGillicuddy Sisters on the main stage of the 2006 Bluesfest in Ottawa...

Pickin', fiddlin' & stompin' at the Ottawa Bluesfest, July 2006

"...the Ottawa Valley's good-timing McGillicuddy Sisters kicked up their heels and got the already-swelling audience's toes tapping with a rambunctious set of no-frills hillbilly tunes. Dressed in brightly coloured cowboy hats and spiffy boots, the gals were just the thing to launch a no-worries summer night."

If you are looking for the so called Nashville Pop Country Music Sound then you have come to the wrong place as this Album is filled with great down home, foot stompin Hillbilly music that will have you up on the dance floor from the first tune “Wait For the Light” and you won’t be able to sit down until the last note is played on track 10 “Billy Saw”. The Sisters Music takes you back to another time and place where you could be in the middle of a Doris Day Movie or way down South in the backhills of Kentucky. It has been an honor to play the Sisters tunes on my Radio Program with “Fickle Lover” and “Fast Lane” becoming firm favorites with the listeners.
All in all the McGillicuddy Sisters Album “Hillbilly Hi-jinx” is 100% Pure Country Music and should appeal to all True Country Music listeners.

"... this Ottawa Valley outfit delights in rough 'n ready covers of 1940's & 50's roll-back-the-rug country tunes by the likes of the Stanley Brothers and the Maddox Brothers & Rose. Lurlene McGillicuddy's walking bass gets a tasty workout over the course of the 10 tracks, as does Violet's fiddle, while Fanny Mae and Miss Kitty contribute guitar and vocals that manage to have fun with (without poking too much fun at) old-fashioned, high-spirited country music. Billy Saw, meanwhile, plays percussion, his beard suggesting he's not actually a "sister". It would be interesting to hear what the McGillicuddy Sisters could do with a sad tune, and one or two would have thrown the good-natured thrust of their debut album into sharper relief."
